Fishing the slow sinking bubble float for Summer carp

• Bubble float fishing is a great technique for the Summer months when the fish are up in the water or on the surface. The bubble float is more to help with casting than bite indication. Catapult a few free offerings to get the carp feeding confidently, then cast beyond them and draw your float into the feeding area. If balanced correctly, your float will slowly sink through the water at a similar speed to your free offerings. Watch the rod tip for bit indication which can be quite fast and strong.

Pole fishing for Winter roach, bream & rudd

• The pole has to be first choice in Winter when accuracy is so important and the fish are further out in deeper water. The key to this type of fishing is to have your hook bait among the free offerings as they fall through the water column. When the rig has settled, wait 30 seconds before lifting and laying it back in again over the loose feed. A single red maggot on the hook will often get the fastest bites, but there’s no harm in trying two now and then for bigger fish. Feed carefully with a small pot on your pole, depending upon how your catching, possibly loose feed bait with a catapult.

• Fish location is the first consideration and time on the bank watching the water for signs of carp is time well spent. Once you have found an area holding carp, finding spots to fish too is the next step. On weedy lakes this could simply be a clear patch where your bait is easily found. On clear lakes, perhaps a gravel bar or depression in the lake bed are worth targeting. Accurate baiting and casting to your chosen spots is key, so take the time to measure your distances and clip-up to ensure your hook bait is fishing over your baited area. Fish slack lines or use back leads for educated carp, wary of lines cutting through the water. Finally, please take care of all the fish you catch, use an un-hooking mat or cradle and only release them when they have recovered and can return to the water strongly.
